Rantings of a Saleman
I have been selling electronics to the idiot masses for 9 years and its time for me to lay down a few rules before I go insane.1. IF you bought your items from a competitor (generally walmart), garage sale, thrift store or pawn shop and need help figuring it out or setting it up NOT MY PROBLEM, I don't care my job is based on my sales so fuck off with your "I bought this at walmart will you help me set it up". Go back to where you got it if they can't help maybe its time to reevaluate where you buy your stuff.
2. Before you ask this "I need the cable to hook my computer to my TV" please check and see if what video outputs are on the computer and what inputs are on the TV as there is not a universal PC to TV cable.
3. Speakers can not be hooked directly into the RCA audio outputs on the back of a TV, if they could why would surround sounds exist? You need some type of stereo reciever to do that.
4. Just because we have or can order parts for your item does not mean I know how to fix it, would you ask the clerk at NAPA to install your alternator just because you bought the part from them? Thats why auto repair shops are out there and mechanics make much more than clerks at parts shops, same goes for electronics.
5. Sales and tech support are two completely different things. While sales people will know some of the basic functions and set up of the items they sell, they can not recall from knowledge all possible functions and trouble shooting steps of every device ever made. Call the brands tech support for the item you purchased, also hold times and whether or not you can understand the person on the phone is not my problem.
6. If another store sends you to my store saying that we have it when we in fact do not carry it please do not yell at me about how you were told that we would. Also its not my job to find the item I do not have for you. I will make reccomendations but if they don't have it tough shit.
7. I do not have any control over pricing, return policies or any other various store policies, I do not care what your story or excuss is my interest is in keeping my job not bending policies to make you happy... sorry. Also please do not say YOU when its the company you're mad at use the company's name.
8. When my shift is over or the store closes its time for you to leave me alone. No I will not stay late or leave the store open later so you can continue shopping. If you make it in before close you still have to leave when the store closes just because you were there before close does not mean I have to stay until you are done. Same goes for when I first get to my shift, no one gets helped untill I'm clocked in because I am not a volunteer. And on the off hand chance you see me outside of work please do not ask me questions relating to my job I don't care how simple or minor you think the question is I don't want to hear it.
9. Phone calls should be for general questions such as where are you located, do you have this, when do you close. Anything that will take more than 30 seconds please come in and wait for your turn to be helped because believe it our not there are other customers in the store and I have other things to do rather than listening to you blab on for 15 minutes and most of the time for me to properly help you you'll need to be in the store anyways.
10. Last and most importantly be nice, don't be rude or treat me like something you scaped off your shoe. I will not do anything to help you if your a dick, if your nice I more inclined to do everything I can to help you. I've known people that have gone above and beyond to make things a real pain in the ass for rude customers, a lot can happen to your item on its way from the backroom to the sales floor.
So please consider these rules before going shopping and if we can follow these rules maybe I can keep from having a total mental break down for another few months. IBF
