It pays to work for the government

In the past five years, the amount of federal workers earning $150,000 has upped tenfold. And despite the recession, it has doubled since President Obama took office.
We had no idea our budget was fit for pay raises!
Many fiscally conservative Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives caught wind of the situation last week and they are challenging the president's plan to give a 1.4% across-the-board pay raise to 2.1 million federal workers.
"It's stunning when you see what's happened to federal compensation," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah. "Every metric shows we're heading in the wrong direction."
Although National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley believes that the raise "is a modest amount and should be implemented" so salaries can compete with the private sector.
Findings reveal that top-paid staff has been given every more across every department and agency. In 2005, the Defense Department had nine civilians earning $170,000 or more but when Obama took office it escalated to 214. And this past June, it rose to 994.
It is true that government workers earn less than private workers or similar jobs, but we don't think Congress needs a pay raise. They earn $174,000, up from $141,300 in 2000.
If they are gonna make that kinda $$$$, they should probably do something to earn it!
