GOP Planning 6 Obama Investigations
Political theater coming soon to a Congress near you: Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who will chair the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has announced six investigations of the Obama administration that he hopes to launch in the first three months of the new Congress. They are: the WikiLeaks cables, FDA recalls, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the financial-crisis panel’s failure to reach consensus about the meltdown’s cause, corruption in Afghanistan, and business regulation. (In the latter case, it appears Issa is trying to fight “corruption” by inviting it—he’s asked businesses to submit to him a list of regulations they’d like for him to target.) Other Republican chairmen have pledged to investigate the radicalization of Muslims, the Justice Department’s civil-rights division, and air-cargo security.
